Thus the best air induction kits come with a cold air feed pipe and usually are fitted in an air box that sheilds the intake air from high temperatures under the bonnet. This is the best compromise between the standard air intake box and the induction kit. Some air induction kits come with a long pipe as the air filter sits at the end nearest of the bonnet which helps to cut down the noise and also helps to reduce the intake air temperature. Kits that claim to get more air forced in, due to the position that they protrude under the front bumper, using the pressure built up on the front of the car as it cuts through air, does not gain power significantly other than the benefit of getting the cold air from outside the engine bay. In order to realize the benefit of the ram, the car should take speeds upto over 100mph. The main demerit of such kits are they collect lot of botanical specimen’s of flys, bugs and moths in the air filter!

NB: Extra caution should be given while placing the cold air feed, as it may suck water into the engine every time the car splashes through a puddle. More power can be obained by avoiding the under bonnet air, if the air filter is enclosed in a box with a cold air feed. Carbon fibre boxes are most recommended as they are well known for their heat sheilding and durability. Wrapping the exhaust manifold with heat resistant material can also help to bring down the under bonnet temperatures. Adding tasteful vents to the bonnet also help to take away the heat.
